Windows, Linux and macOS, on your Mac.

Virtual machines your AI agent can drive.

A private beta for macOS 27 on Apple silicon. Expect rough edges. Emails are only about the beta, and unsubscribing deletes your address. Privacy

Machines

Every system in its own window. On one Mac, side by side.

Windows runs on OSMates’ own engine, written in Swift. Linux and macOS run on Apple’s Virtualization framework. Quit the app and they keep running.

Agents

Hand the work to your agent. It runs commands, reads the screen and clicks.

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other MCP clients connect through osmates mcp. Each call says what it changed, so the agent can check its own work.

  1. 01

    Ask in plain words.

One request in Claude Code, which reaches OSMates through osmates mcp.

  2. 02

    It starts each machine.

One at a time here, as asked. OSMates answers once the guest’s agent is ready.

  3. 03

    It types at the screen.

Keys and text go to the guest’s own keyboard, and each call says whether the screen changed.

  4. 04

    It finds another way.

When a guest can’t do something, the error says so, and the agent takes another route.

  5. 05

    It can go back.

A snapshot before a risky change, and one call to revert.

  6. 06

    It reads the screen.

A screenshot, or the text and controls on it, and after each click, whether the screen changed.

What it does

The slow parts, done for you. From the installer to the undo button.

Windows 11, installed for you.

Hand OSMates Microsoft’s Arm64 ISO. Setup runs unattended and signs you in.

Linux servers from signed images.

Debian, Ubuntu or Fedora®, downloaded and checked against their signatures before they boot.

A clean macOS when you need one.

Installed from Apple’s own restore image.

Snapshots before risky changes.

If a change breaks the machine, revert it.

How it’s built

Native, and nothing runs as root. Apple’s frameworks where they exist, our own engine where they don’t.

Every part runs as you. The app only shows your machines; a service keeps them, and each machine lives in a process of its own.

Public APIs only

Documented Apple APIs and open standards. No private frameworks, no kernel extensions.

Machines outlive the app

Quit or crash the app and the machines keep running. One machine crashing takes no other down.

Windows on our own engine

UEFI firmware, NVMe, USB, a virtio GPU, a TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot keys of its own for each machine.

A guest agent in Rust

Runs programs and moves files in every guest. In Windows it also shares the clipboard and reads the accessibility tree.

Not yet

What it doesn’t do yet. It’s an early beta.

3D graphics
Windows and Linux get a 2D display. 3D is on the roadmap, after 1.0 for Windows.
Linux desktops
Linux machines are servers made from cloud images. Desktop images come later.
Clipboard for Linux and macOS
Copy and paste works with Windows today. Linux and macOS come next.
Bridged networking
Machines share the Mac’s connection through NAT.
Agent permissions
Scopes, approvals and an audit log for agents are being built.
A public build
The beta is by invite while the app gets signed, notarized and able to update itself.

Questions

Asked before.

Does it use QEMU?
No. Windows runs on OSMates’ own engine. To Windows it looks like QEMU’s virt machine, so the usual EDK2 firmware and virtio-win drivers work unchanged.
Do I need a Windows license?
Yes. Bring your own. OSMates installs Windows 11 Pro and never activates it.
Will it cost money?
Not for personal use, non-profits, or public and non-profit schools. For paid work, at a company, in government or on your own, you’ll pay per user. There’s no price yet.
